Hi Y'all,

I tend to ask people things when I meet them at local auto events.  One of these is (wait for it) who they recommend for doing a good chrome-plating job.  Normally what I get are warnings of who NOT to go to.  Seeing as how it will not be too much longer before I pull the bumper ends off of my '57 SDV, grind out the rot, and repair them, I will then need to send them off somewhere to be plated.  If it helps, I am not really interested in a Concours-level job.  My '57 is in very good shape, to be sure.  But she is a driver, and I don't see why I would want to overkill things, if possible.  A good, durable, bubble-free chrome job is what I am after.  That being said, have any of used a chrome-plater who you would recommend?  I am in the southeast (Alabama) if that helps, although I am sure that I can ship things anywhere if need be.

Thanks a bunch!

Dave,

I use Speed & Sport Chrome in Texas.

High quality work and a turnaround time of 3 weeks tops.

Written quote faxed or emailed to you before they start the work but, they have to look at what you have first.

They advertise in our Cadillac clubs magazine every month.

You won't be disappointed............Craig's the owner....... ask for him.

I have seen Librandi's work (it was a 59 Buick grille) and would not recommend them - sorry.

Dave- again I recommend New England Chrome Plating in East Hartford, CT.  Their turn-around is usually 2 weeks, and their prices are very fair.http://www.newenglandchrome.com/

If you want Concours level plating I would recommend Finishing Touch in Chicago. They are great at preserving detail and also with pot metal. They advertise in the SS and offer a discount to members.      Harry

I'm with Harry, Finishing Touch did, and in some parts, re-did mine. Costly, but quality always is. Beautiful work.

There is Graves Plating in Florence, Alabama.  I have not used them, but did take a tour through their facility during an old car tour a couple of years ago.  Don't know how close you are to them, but recommend you visit them, take a tour, discuss your wants and desires, etc.  Take a piece with you to discuss.  I like to meet face-to-face with the people who will be doing my work, although that's not always possible.  They seem to have good reviews when I Googled them.

Finishing Touch is unquestionably to me the king of quality Pebble Beach chrome and metal refinishing work.  Get your wallet out though.  They did the armrest plaques on my 1970 Cadillac in the brushed chrome, the mirrors on in matt and shiny chrome, plus many other tedious chrome parts that take a lot of care.  They also do a wonderful job on straightening and polishing stainless steel. Their work is impeccable, but expensive.  You get what you pay for.

Hanlon plating in Richmond, VA has done good work for me, and they are great to work with. They have a web page you can check out.
