All,

Dan's app has me confused as to why the per mile cost of regular grade fuel ($0.51) is much more than the per mile cost of premium grade fuel ($0.33).  Am I reading the app incorrectly?  Is premium grade fuel less expensive than regular in Canada?

Cost per mile for any car includes much more than the cost of fuel.  Maintenance, insurance, taxes (registration fees), and financing (if you have borrowed money to buy your car) should be included when calculating the cost per mile to operate your car.  About the only thing that we do not have to consider in the per mile cost is depreciation since our cars are so old.

I only had run one tank of regular in it, and I think I spent a lot of time idling and making adjustments, so the MPG was very poor, to say the least.  That's what drove the cost per mile up.

So after reading your interesting responses, I'm thinking the following:

Cost per mile for a fully depreciated driver is in the economy car range.  With the gas savings, I'm going to use the car more often, put more miles on it, and bank the savings with the cheaper gas for major repairs.  I do a lot of driving up and down route 95 during the spring and summer, and seeing one of you folks motoring along keeps me warmer in the cold and drier in the rain. Let's hit the roads big time this season.  James

About the only section of Route 95 I'd drive my 61 on is the section from Portland to Bangor, Maine. Traffic is comfortably light.

Sounds like a plan. I love the Camden/Rockport region.

I may do one of the Owl's Head shows this year.
