Cadillac trivia? Do you know which Fisher plant built 1965 Fleetwood body?

Was Fisher Body plant 21 producing Fleetwood bodies in the mid 1960s? Or just limos?  I ask because I think my Fleetwood Brougham is different because it says "Body by Fleetwood" instead of "Body by Fisher" on the sills.

The article below says Fisher Body Plant 18 built Cadillac bodies until it too was taken down in the 80s.  But I'm hoping 21 built mine so I can go see it when I'm in Detroit.  I know the Clark Street assembly plant is gone, but Fisher Body Plant 21 is still there.

It also built one of the planes my grandfather flew in World War Two, the Corsair.

All Cadillac bodies came from Fisher - Fleetwood plant 21.  The Fleetwood series wore the "Body by Fleetwood" badges while the 62 series had "Body by Fisher. Interior by Fleetwood".

But when I looked up the info for plant 18, IT said Cadillac bodies came from THERE.

I see that too.  I'm not positive where it was built and I wish I did.  I read somewhere that Cadillac bodies came from its own (Fisher - Fleetwood) plant from a certain time period.   Then other plants were opened even for final assembly like Linden and Southgate.

Sadly,  the last car built at Clark was an Oldsmobile,  not a Cadillac.

I have more research to do...

Ok.  According to "Cadillacs of the Sixties" by Roy Schneider, 75 series body production was moved from Fleetwood plant 18 to plant 18 around 1950.  Fleetwood plant 18 went through great expansion after the war.

So, was your Fleetwood built at 18 and not 21?  Probably?  What was plant 21 producing besides all 75 series?

Not sure, maybe I can look it up in the museum up there...thanks for researching for me Walter!

The answer to your question is that your 1965 Fleetwood's body was built at plant 18 " Fleetwood " and then trucked to final assembly at Clark Avenue. You will verify this as if you look under your hood at the aluminum body tag on the top of the drivers side of the firewall it will say FWD , for fleetwood plant 18. The Fleetwood seventyfive sedan and limousine bodies were built at plant 21.

So what is stamped on the body plate for the bodies built at plant 21?

Good question and what other Cadillac bodies did each plant build?

Glen, the answer to your question is "P21" to identify the body plant.  Over what period of time I don't know exactly.

Walter, which plant made which sort of body came to depend to some extent on the model year, with things starting to get complicated from the late 1960s.

Thanks Tom.  Cant say that I have ever seen that on any body plate.
