Please view the post in the Forum Support forum, it has a poll about making a dark mode (i.e. dark color screens instead of bright white) available. This can be of interest for those that access the forums from a mobile device as dark screens use less battery power. But we need to know whether enough people want this before investing the time to install an extra mode.

1961 390 oil pump drive shaft

I'm rebuilding a 1961 390 and the shaft between the distributor and oil pump has gone missing.  Is this a standard GM part I can stll buy, or do I need to find a used one?  I'm not having any luck searching for a new one directly.  I greatly appreciate any insight on the best options for finding a replacement.

I have one in my parts car. But I am in Michigan and it is cold and wet. If you would like it I will try to pull it out over the next couple of days.

It took some beating. But I got my parts car distributor out.

I sprayed some penetrant in the hole, but I cannot find my large magnet wand. The little one is not strong enough to pull out the drive rod.

The Tassie Devil(le)

Having that piece out and easily accessible, would be the best time to craft the mechanical Priming device to rotate the pump.

When I made mine, I had the pump out, and it was easy to hammer the tool into the correct shape.   Using the rod as an anvil.

Inserting the Roll Pin stops the tool from getting caught on the end of the shaft, making it easier to remove following priming.   Plus, it is a good tool for aligning the oil pump with the bottom of the distributor when replacing said distributor.

This parts car has already given up a lot of parts. But I am happy when I find another one that someone can use.

I paid $400 for this at a ghetto garage sale in Lansing Michigan
Cost me $600 to get it home. The first part I took from it was the power steering pump when I broke the back cap on mine.
