Can someone tell me how the grill bars separate? It looks like they just twist down and pull forward but It is very hard and I don't want to damage them. Am I missing something or is there a trick to it?

Got it!  For reference,  If you put a little pressure sideways on the vertical bars as you push down on the front of the horizontal bars, you can pull them out a little and move on to the next.
