I am going to put this out there in case someone has on lying around, otherwise, I will have something made up at a machine shop.

I am looking for the complete hood latch assembly for a 1942 Series 67 - I believe that other models will interchange.  I have broken the rod that attaches to the hood ornament release, and in trying to get that fixed, I have now broken the loop that attaches the rod to the latch assembly - brute force got me into this predicament.

The loop portion of the rod is attached to the latch assembly, and then it appears to have been tack welded - Yes, I can get a new rod and loop made up, but it will mean some cutting and welding to get everything back together.

So, if anyone happens to have the whole assembly as shown in the picture (ignore the red circle - I really need everything at this point - except the 2 hold down brackets) - let me know.

Thanks in advance -

Joe Bergeson

I have a complete 41 setup for a model 62 but don't think they are the same.  Any one know for sure?

Hi Joe -

The 1941 MIGHT be the same, but like you, I am not too sure.  I would have to see if I can find a local member with a '41 and do some measuring.  I know that the 1946-47 is a completely different rig, so those are not an option.  If you are able to take a pic of yours, I can eyeball it, and I will try to see what I can find out on interchangeability -

Thanks,
Tod

Hi  TMoore....Here's a couple a pics of the latch rod on  my 41  ...as you can see with the measuring tape about 17 1/2" long adjusted right into the 2" long nut.....so you could add an inch for each rod...I have a friend close by with a 42 and the latch  mec is the same.....only difference I can see is the alignment pin is fitted to the grill top instead of the hood panel.....

Excellent - thanks for the great pics and measurements.  I will check mine out tomorrow and see what kind of complications I might run into, but this looks like it could get me out of jam.

Tod,  Make sure you have an escape route?  If it gets down and does not unlatch it is a big problem.  I am considering adding a remote latch release I purchased due to this??

Been there, done that - not fun.

Fortunately, Bill Ingler had the cure - take a slim open-end 1/2 wrench and loosen the bolts on the hold downs and you can get the hood up.  I have done it twice now, and would prefer not to have to do it again.

Just measured my rod - approx 17 3/8 - so, as mentioned, with the turnbuckle adjustment, I think the 1941 will be the same rig as the 1942.  Curious - I do not have the alignment pin at all - not on the hood, nor on the frame, but I think I can overcome that part of it.

Joe Bergeson, please check your p.m. or post back here - I think I might be able to use your assembly.

Thanks all - hope this works out.

Guys,
I suggest you all look at an early  Master Parts list before you start shipping this odd shaped part around the country.

Too much fun is more than you can have.

Bob brings up a great point.  I would hate to sell you this and have it not work.  Any additional suggestions on how we verify anyone out there?

Well, we have established that the rod is the same (my immediate need), and Doug has done a visual....The parts book shows that these interchange.

Joe - let me know how much you would like for your piece, and I will decide if I want to chance it or not -

Thanks,
Tod

Tod,
Sorry, I have been gone for a few days and just saw your response.  I have no idea what to charge.  Please give me a call @ 262 894-0615 or email joe.b@wi.rr.com if still interested so we can discuss.  Thanks,
Joe B
