My 54 331 seems to have a 56 water pump on it?  Could this be a source for my motor running hot? Also still can seem to locate my water temp sensor?

Your temp sensor is on the drivers side rear of the head. Install an aftermarket gauge to be safe. Have you stuck a laser thermometer on all the hoses and engine to see if your gauge is working? Do you have your hoses hooked up correctly? Even though the 54-56 pumps look similar, they seem to all have different connections for your heater hoses. Looks like the 56 is the same as my 54 and 55. Hope that helps...
