Good morning.
The new axle that I purchased did not come with a new axle nut.  Does anyone have the part number for a new one?  For anyone who has done this job, can the old nut be reused?

Thanks,
Don

The old nut can definitely be reused.   Unless they are completely messed up, which is going to be difficult.

If it fits you can reuse it.   Make sure it easily threads all the way on before you install it.  Threads are easily damaged and they are easier to repair before its in the hub.     Until recently they were all the same size.   If you have one of the new production new designs its a different thread.    The originals the inner joint was clearly a 3 pointed sort of thing, you could see it in the casting and the boot is almost a triangle with the rubber sort of recessed in it.    The new design both the inner and outer joints and boots more or less look the same.

Are nuts the same through the 85s, if so it will be a lot easier to
replace?  Might be some here.

The original half shafts used a constant velocity joint at the wheel but
just an inner 3 point universal joint.  Has that design been upgraded
to constant velocity at all points?  Bruce Roe

I didn't take the boot off the new one to see for sure but both ends look the same.    My guess is they just tweaked the parts used for the trucks to bolt onto these Eldo/Toros.    I wonder if the threads and nut are maybe the same as the trucks?   That may be another clue.  They have 3 sizes of GM truck shafts to choose from so I wonder if even the splines are the same on one of them?    The front suspension and shafts and everything on the GM IFS trucks (98+) is almost identical to the Eldo.  Changes are pretty minor like the hub/bearing bolts on instead of press on.  The bigger ones even have the bolt on flanges for the inner CV,  just the S-10 size snaps in.
