Hello,
Does anyone have a ticket/registration that they can't use for one car to drive on the GN Louisville Driving Tour ?    Scott & Allyson Halver CLC #24920

Do we have to have tickets to drive on the tour?  Having never been to a GN before I intended to drive my LaSalle there and participate in the driving tour.  Is this somehow limited?

This event had to be cut off at 50 cars due to the logistics of a caravan and restaurant capacity.

O.K.

Well I was not aware of that limitation. Perhaps it was published somewhere and I missed it. My wife and I have been camping off the grid and hiking in Arizona for a month....having just returned Tuesday.  If the limitation was not published then it should have been. Was there a lottery or first come?  That was the event that I most looked forward too. I am quite disappointed.

A few years ago a caravan of "collector cars" driving from Chicago to Florida came through our community in Warren County Missouri There were easily 200 or 300 cars. They traveled through our community for well over one hour. So large numbers should not exclude participation.  Nor should it be necessary to stop and eat at only one or any place for that matter. But I am not involved.... so someone else must make the decisions.

One less reason to attend. An example of why I have not traditionally participated in such events or organizations. Seems always to be an air of exclusivity....those in the know and those unaware.

If I missed the information then the responsibility is mine and mine alone. None the less is appears that the caravan is exclusive and limited....leaving out many members.

I had planned to drive my LaSalle to Louisville and participate.  Now I am inclined to not come.

You could always just show up 8),the worst they will do is send you home,or even tag along a couple of minutes late?.Possibly they have a waiting list you could be put on. Harveyb

Bob,
I'm sorry to hear that. I know you've been working on your car a lot. I hope that driving tour has older cars in it. There should be no late model cars involved. I would have made at least a 15 year rule . Just my thoughts.

Ima little stunned at the cut off too.

In my book, the more participants, the better.  But I'm a participant, not a planner / organizer.

Hello Bob, I encourage you to come to the Grand National anyway. The driving tour is only one part of a weeks worth of activities. I have been a CLC member for 30 years. I went to the 2002 GN in Detroit. When registering I was stunned at the many little rules and deadlines involved. I am also a member of the National Woodie Club and their version of a meet is to BYOB at a state park beach in California. I did not get all the tours I wanted in Detroit but I had a blast anyway. In the years since I have come to realize that these GNs are big events requiring a year or more of careful planning by many people. The planners need to consider many details that we may not be aware of. The strict registering procedure is there for the sake of organization, not exclusion. I encourage you to come and bring your Lasalle. There are fewer and fewer prewar cars at meets these days, particularly Lasalles. Make an effort to start conversations with people and enjoy the attractions in Louisville. You will meet many interesting people from all over and have a great time.

Driving tours are great.  I signed up today and saw it was "full", but so what.  Having been on a few, they can't be a continuous caravan anyway and break up by design.  If the main restaurant is full, no problem, plenty of places to eat so I am not worried.  Take a chance and give it go.

Went on the driving tour last year for the first time.  It was great fun.  Agree with your perspective!
