My son in laws father is looking for a new battery for his car. I did a search on the forum for 1959 battery and really did not find a current answer as to where he can get one. anyone know of an Interstate battery that will fit the try or does he have to go with the Jim's Battery Co ones?

I got a battery for my 60 at NAPA. It is a hair too large, but bolted down it is fine.

I would suggest going with a optima battery. They are a sealed battery, no leaks and they last a long time. I know they cost a little more but worth every penny.

I put a Group 27 battery in the 1959 I am working on.  As Michael Petti said, the battery is a bit too large in the width, but what I did was to use a wood rasp to remove the "wedge" that is on each side of the battery at the bottom.  This "wedge" is used in newer cars for the battery hold-down, and removing it does not damage the integrity of the case and makes the fit just right.  The width of the battery case (minus the "wedge") is 6.75 inches, and the length of the battery tray is plenty long enough to accommodate the Group 27 battery.

There are 2 type of group 27's. A "27" and a "27-F. The only difference is the position of the positive post. If the cables don't have any slack, this could be an issue if you get the wrong post position.

I use an Interstate C50 in my '60.  It's a little too skinny, but it fits in the tray. It's a heavy duty commercial series battery, and has plenty of CCA's.
