Am talking to an out-of-state dealer with a 1976 Eldorado convertible for sale.  Sales rep tells me that the top on the car has never been put down and the dealership will not put it down to demonstrate it on a video.  What kinds of problems am I likely to encounter with a top that has reputedly has not been opened in 45 years.

It likely may not work, that's why it hasn't been down.   I'd be wary.

I too would be very wary, and in any negotiations, would be including the cost of a new replacement, including the internal rain gutter.

The problem with anything vinyl that is not "used", is that it will dry out and harden.

This highlights one of the problems with cars in storeage (for many years, like in museums), and then being put to use.

What is the mileage on the car?   If it is extremely low, then the top could be the least of your troubles.

PS.   The sales Rep cannot have much confidence in what he, or she is selling.
