Good afternoon gentlemen.

I tried to recharge my a/c system again today.

Vacuum down to 30 in. Stayed for an hour. Used side tap can, purged line before starting car and turning on A/C.

Compressor spun. Open up low side valve to release charge . Low side to 70 to 90 psi, high side zero. Wait five min and stop as something is wrong.

Disconnect everything and put car back in garage.

Reattach lines and both high and low state zero?

It didn't accept a charge? Can still feels full.

This is getting irritating. If the economy was better the parts cannon would be getting fired.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Car is 1976 Fleetwood with R134 fittings. Thank you

Ok, why did you have to recharge it, opened the system for repairs? 0 all around usually means it is completely  empty, if the system can't suck in the freon, assuming the can was used correctly, the compressor may be bad, if that system uses a suction throttling valve that could be another issue. How did you check the high side, you have an gage kit?

Hi , yes I received the car with the system empty. Vacuumed and checked with professional gauge kit.

Ok, thought so.No pressure at all on the high side. Some of these charge cans are self sealing, gotta watch where you set the tap needle.  Can should start to feel cold as the freon goes in. If the charge process is done right, and you get no results, the compressor could be bad as I said. You should have some reading on the high side, even empty.

The yellow hose that goes to the side tap 'should' have a depressor inside to push on the shrader valve on the can tap. This allows the refrigeration to flow. Also some of the 134 fittings also have a turn valve on each 134 tap (high and low) these must me turned in so again to depress the valve .

If we are starting at a vacuum what I do BEFORE I start the car is open BOTH sides to allow as much refrigeration to flow into the system from the can. Then CLOSE the high side at the manifold to start the system and continue charging thru the OPEN  low side. Don't forget with the Low side valve open  it's reading the pressure in the can if it's greater. You need to close it at the charging manifold to read the system pressure.
