Would it be acceptable to put metal leaf spring covers on a 29 Cadillac

Do you have a copy of the owners manual?

 I looked in a copy of the manual for 341A (production:Sept1927-July1928).
 Page 60  under Springs "The springs are encased in covers which retain the lubricant and exclude water. The only attention they require is repacking once a season with petroleum jelly."
