Been looking all over the internet for a A/C fuel pump for my 55. There is a wide range of prices. Has anyone bought one recently and where to get one plus I would like to get a rebuild kit so I have a spare?

Thanks,

Hi Bob,

While I've not owned a mid-50's SDV (since  1975), I can give you a couple of concerns that I learned the hard way based on frustrating experiences.   These "upper mounted" fuel pumps suffer from lack of lubrication inside the mechanical casing.  Old timers, back in the day, used to fill the casing with grease in order to keep the pivot arm from developing out-of- round lash that gradually affects the pump's ability to create suction-- since the cam follower only provides a limited push, there's little tolerance for wear in the pump actuator mechanism. Also, because the pump is mounted so high, any pin hole, even ones that don't drip or are located behind the pipe straps on the chassis or ones located on top of or inside side of the tank, defeat the pump's ability to suck gas.  Some folks have used electric pumps, but they MUST be of the correct pressure and electrically wired properly.  Hope this helps,   James

I have had Then & Now Automotive rebuild my fuel pump.  They also sell kits.  Great shop, turned my 55 pump around in less than a week.

A good fuel pump rebuilder is Arthur Gould.

I second Arthur Gould. He did the one on my 60 2 years ago and no problems at all. I had an original A/C to rebuild.

Thanks guys I'll try to contact Arthur Gould.
