Hey all!
I have a 1929 LaSalle 328 V8 engine that was passed down to me from my Grandpa and we are so close on getting it up and running.
Does anyone know the firing order for a 1929 LaSalle or Cadillac? And do you know if it gets plugged into the distributor in order 1-8. The distributor has numbers at the top in order 1-8. The manual doesn't have much around the firing order so any intel will help.
I also attached a picture of a diagram layout on what we think it should be.
Thank you!

Alec

These very old engines are numbered different from  newer engines.

firing order for 29 La Salle

    1L,4R,4L,2L,3R,3L,2R 1R

These might also be a help:

Tappet Clearance cold Inlet .004/exhaust .006
Valve timing: With inlet tappet of no.1 cylinder set exactly to .004inch,inlet opens at 9.50 degrees or 3 teeth before  Top Center, exhaust closes 5 degree after top center.
    Point gap .020
    Spark plug gap .025-.030
Ignition timing:With manual control fully advanced spark occurs 7.5 degrees or 2 flywheel teeth before top center or when flywheel mark IG/A aligns with pointer
    Oil crankcase capacity 8  Quarts
Compression Pressure: at cranking speed 79-89 psi

I see your cap doesn't match this numbering system.
The valve timing should be the same on any cylinder.
The ignition timing : When set at flywheel mark IG/A  if 1L is at top center-it is cylinder 1. If 1R is up it is cylinder 1. Position now of the rotor  is where cylinder 1 wire should be .Then follow the firing order around the cap in the direction the rotor is moving to place the other wires.

Hey  Warren,
Would it look something like this?

Warren Rauch #4286

I could not find a diagram for 1929.I did find one for 1931. It even included the 1-8 numbers on the cap. Same firing order, so it should be the same. You are right. Connect the wires from those cylinders to the 1-8 positions on your cap. If the distributor has been removed, make sure the rotor lines up with number one.
