I recently purchased a beautiful deville convertible that is in relatively good shape. I have minor electrical problems I am working through.

One question I had was my convertible did not come with a power trunk release and I would really like to add it. I really don't want to add the universal type release that requires mounting to the trunk lid.  I would rather replace the existing latch with an original Cadillac power release.  Does anyone know if the power release will fit as a replacement without modifying the latch cavity. Not having the power release in hand I can't tell if the solenoid will fit through the latch hole.   Hope that made sense.
Thanks for any input.  Mark

I'm gonna guess its a 70 since he says its a Deville convertible and he selected 70's as the era.

Was the latch arrangement different depending on if it had the pulldown or not?   I would have to go look but I'm thinking with the cable shock pulldown mech the release was on the trunk lid.  The electric pulldown was what 75?  Then the plastic one 79?

My experience is the power release will be fitted
to the part where it can turn the key lock shaft.
Has been either the body or the lid on my cars.
The same unit I would salvage from the yard would
pretty much fit all models around that year.

I once fitted a 63 body mounted release to a 62
lid mount, which did not originally have that
option. A vacuum chamber mounted under the hood.
What year did they go from vacuum to electric?
good luck, Bruce Roe

If all you want is a remote opening, then jut a trunk "popper" (as Honest John used to call them) is all you need. It fits over the shank of the trunk lock and when activated, twists the shank just like the key does.

Thanks folks. I will check into it. $265 for a Cadillac power release is a bit more than I want to spend not knowing the fit. But it sounds like I can replace the existing non power latch with the dedicated latch and solenoid. I will also look into the trunk popper option.  I don't need the trunk pull down. Just the opener. Thanks.
