after removing the three screws  the chrome ring and lens should just fall out in your hand. Dave

Might need to use a small screw driver to help pop it off it may be stuck on by the old crispy rubber seal on the backside of the gass to the housing. to remove the bulb you will need to push it in and turn it cant recall if cockswise or counter clockwise.

the lens is held in the ring with spring clips.Dave

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions to remove the chrome ring that holds the glass of the fog light in place. I've tried pulling on the ring and nothing on both. Any suggestions? Also and photos of how it should look once the ring is off. Thanks

Look on Ebay for "1950 Cadillac fog light" and the first listing that comes up shows several pictures, from various angles, of the complete assembly.  You might get some ideas from this as to how it is held in.  To me it looks like the chrome ring, that holds the lens, should just pop off with a little encouragement from a small screwdriver, just as a previous poster suggested.  I can't imagine that Cadillac would make it too difficult to replace a light bulb that is externally accessible.

Joshua,

My choice of cars is from the other end of the 50's.
But, your dilemma caught my curiosity.
Forgive me for sticking my nose in.

Do you have a Master Parts List book or Service Manual for your year car.  They may help.

I noticed that the glass in the for sale ad had a small tab at the top edge of the glass.
Does the chrome housing have a thin inner lip that the tab may snap behind.

Is there a rubber gasket behind the glass within the chrome housing and have you removed it - sacrificed it.

I would be very careful when using a screwdriver, even a little one unless it is very thin, to avoid putting too much pressure when torqueing the glass to loosen it.

I would suggest using a utility knife - a pointed razor blade - to free up behind the glass as well as the face of the glass that protrudes beyond the chrome housing lip at the front.

Or, go all primitive and bust it out, now that you know where to buy replacement lenses.

Have fun,

hi Steve, glad to answer your questions, I was lucky enought to get a 1950 cadillac shop manual with the car I found it in the glove box, but sadly the book only gave info on the removal of the standard parking/turn signal lense and only gave a brief description on how to adjust fog lights hight if you have them but nothing else.

So today I was able to remove the chrome ring and as another user stated the glass is held onto that by springs so after taking that off the glass was free from the ring but stuck to the housing still (I'll post photos) the little tab your talking about fits into a small slot on the top of the housing but not the chrome ring.

You are right there is a rubber gasket on the housing that the glass sits on and and I did have to sacrifice it. I used a heat gun the I used a small flat head to lift up one side and the glass just peeled away from the rubber. Took me a bit of time to clean it all but now I'm in business, just need to find a new gasket 😂

Here are some photos. I used the wire to pull the lense out i weved it through the screw hole and the bottom hole which im not sure its use, then twisted it up and pulled and crazy thing is the first time it broke, so it just goes to show just how stuck on it was

Some times you just have to bite the bullet, and just pull.

That Gasket must have been pretty set and doing it's intended job beautifully.
