What is the procedure for removing the rear brake drums on commercial chassis cars?  The car I'm working on is a '57.  I know it's different but I can't find where I read the procedure for removal.

On my 1957 Cadillac Housecar  ,which is on an 86 chassis ,it was straight forward.

1)Back off the brake shoes ,if possible
2)BACK OFF the axle nut , put it back on castle end in. so it is flush with end of axle
  3) Install a GOOD wheel puller
  4) Turn the screw and hope
  5)  Most times you will  have to hit the end of the puller with a hammer.  If your puller is good the drum will be loose enough to slide out on the axle to the nut.
6)when it comes free, jack up car and remove drum.

This is MY method. It likely isn't the Cadillac Factory method.

If you back off the brake shoe adjustment (star adjuster) they should pull right off. If they are rusted in place, a few light hammer taps on the drum should release it.

I believe CC vehicles still have a different rear drum installation at the rear compared to passenger cars; a puller is needed.
