Hi I need help what is the correct assembly order for a 59 Cadillac Carburetor
I have a thin metal gasket and the bakelite spacer.
Which goes first from Manifold to Carburetor?
the thin metal Gasket and the Bakelita need regular gasket before and after?
Thanks

I'm guessing you have a Carter AFB because the instructions for installing Rochester carb on page 10-50 do not mention a tin plate. The instructions for installing a Carter AFB are on page 10-34, section 25, of the 1959 manual. Place carburetor gasket on top of manifold, place insulator on top of gasket and place second carburetor gasket on top of the insulator. Clean and coat the surfaces of the tin plate with gasket cement and place tin plate on top of the second carburetor gasket. Lower the carb onto the studs and tighten to 15-20 foot pounds torque. This is pictured on the same page. If you need the picture I'll scan it and post it. So, gasket then insulator then gasket then tin plate. Torquing the bolts down evenly and to specs is important. Mine was not tight enough at first when done by feel and had bad stalling problem. Correct torque tightness fixed it.

After I had the carb rebuilt and installed properly on my '59 it runs like a dream, idling at the shop manual specified 450rpm.

The proper order of the manifold-> gasket-> spacer-> gasket-> plate-> sealer-> carb is critical. The metal plate seals the bottom of the carb and prevents the exhaust gasses in the crossover from corroding the casting.

I used Permatex Indian Head gasket between the plate and the carb. It worked well to ensure a proper seal.

It looks like that is a Carter only part. The Shop Manual does not mention the metal plate for the Rochester re installation:

When I bought my Carter AFB equipped 1962 Coupe, it was missing the tin plate and ran like shit. Replaced and it runs like a dream. That plate is vital if you have a Carter.

For the sake of completeness in this thread, below is a section of the June 1959 The Cadillac Serviceman bulletin. It mentions the switch from tin to stainless steel for the plate below the Carter carbs:
