1959 steering column removal

 Can someone tell me how to get the shifter out of the column so I can remove the column. Does that nut have to come out , or does that shaft undo, from the nut.

You need to unpin the linkage on the other side then turn the entire rod.

You unpin the control rod/linkage that is attached to the end of the shift lever (rod attached at the upper left of your photo), then unscrew the entire shift lever. You will end with this:

That nut just works as a lock nut. The whole rod needs to spin to unscrew. 20240723_174539.jpg
