In the process of re-installing the  generator on my '61 after a rebuild, the large spade connector at the ground screw on the generator body broke. While there are are obviously various modern connectors that would fit the ground screw stud, I can't find anything similar to the original style in term of providing a large surface area for the ground. Does anyone know whether such a large connector is necessary? If not, I'm inclined to just use a ring terminal.

I don't think the surface area really matters. But I ordered a kit from Amazon that is similar diameter. But in a lighter gauge.

Those look heftier than the ring terminals I have. Maybe I should upgrade. Here is the original and what I had lying around.

I dropped three under the car trying different ways of holding them up to the generator for the picture.

Your efforts are appreciated! Where did you get those fresh capacitors?

David,

You could reused the same old terminal but it is a very tedious work to get the old crimp open.

I always try to reuse the same old terminals if all possible and if they are in good to fair shape, yours looks to be in good shape.

The wire holder loop can be open fairly easy with a small pick but the crimp would need a bit more perversion to open. The wire can't be crimp back so it would need to be solder in the same area on the old crimp. I prefer to always solder all my terminals even if they are crimp but in some cases it is impossible to solder them in-place.

Just an alternative process, good luck.
