I am in the process of moving a '67 DeVille I bought and the first few times I opened and closed the trunk it latched just fine with a very light touch. After that I have not yet gotten it to latch.

I poked at the lid latch itself it it moves freely, is lubricated, and easily latches when I move the latch/lock cam with my finger. It then will also unlatch fine when using the key.
But no matter how hard I press down on the deck lid, or how much force I've given, it won't latch closed--I have not used obscene force, just a nice tough force, and I only did it once.

My car is not even near running condition, hasn't had an engine in it in years.

It has power door locks which the internet says should be vacuum.

Does power door locks automatically include a power trunk release?

I can't figure out how to ID whether my car has a power trunk release or not. If it does I suppose the mechanism might be causing an issue...??

Thank you very much.

From an earlier discussion when we had non-member support in the Forum:
"Only the RELEASE is vacuum-operated in 1967 and 1968.  The vacuum cylinder and push-button in your set-up are vacuum. They were replaced by an electric switch and release in 1969-70.  All the rest is the same."

Hope that helps!

When you look in your trunk if you see just the latch devise bolted to the inside of the trunk lid and no cable attached to it and just the latching securement devise bolted to the rear of the trunk floor then your car is not equipped with the trunk release feature. The door lock feature did not automatically come with the trunk release feature. Next inside the glove box will be a trunk release button if your car is so equipped. The bolts that secure the latching piece to the steel cage on the trunk floor allow the securement to be adjusted so the trunk lid will stay closed. on my 1968 for example I had to secure mine at a slight angle for it to work smoothly. Feel free to call me and I will talk you through it. 863 978-6452

Actually you answered it right there, I did not see any of the cable mechanism, so I think that settles it. If I have further questions about this issue the next time I am near the vehicle, I may indeed give you a call, and thank you for helping me, everyone.
