The transmission in the Eldorado is the TH 425. I found a vendor who specializes in repair and overhaul of these transmissions. Although my request was simple and small, he gave it his prompt, personal and professional attention.

He is Manny Travao at Manny's Transmssion in San Jose, CA.

He specializes in TH425 in GMC Motorhomes, which is where I found him. The recent thread about the six wheeled Cadillac in Chicago had me looking at GMC motorhomes and enthusiast forums. Surfing the net on that subject came up with a For Sale ad that said 'Transmission overhauled by Manny" I was intrigued because one name branding in our hobby is significant.

Later i was surfing GMC Motorhome enthusiast sites and i came a cross a recommended transmission vendor with a website link to  Manny Travao.

I had found out who 'Manny' was. I contacted him via email with my small request and he got back to me right away with an affirmative response and I got my part in the mail today.

He has a great website I would encourage that Eldorado owners check out and a great attitude and wanted to introduce him here as a resource for TH425 support.

I know this is an old post but wanted to chime in with my experiences today.

My Eldorado transmission is leaking after another transmission shop serviced it.

I am local to San Jose and found Manny's from a Google search. He seemed an expert on the THM425, so I made an appointment and drove. He got under the car and noted that the transmission pan and final drive cover were leaking and had torn gaskets in multiple spots. He suspected that the previous service either reused the old gasket or over-torqued the bolts and tore the gaskets. He had the parts for the transmission but not the gasket for the final drive, and sent me to another local shop, but not before giving me new pan gasket and the correct pan bolts that would not loosen up.

For all this, he charged me nothing.

I knew I was in the right shop when I saw multiple THM425s around the shop being rebuilt. He also showed me a limited slip option that he was fitting to a unit, but not sure how much benefit that would add to the Eldo.

IF you are in need of a rebuild, I would highly recommend calling Manny. He suggests upgrading the THM425 with some parts from the THM400 for reliability.

He used to have one of every year Toronado, but now is focused on the GMC RVs that also use this motor / tranny combo.

Again - most shops in my neck of the woods refuse to look at this model, so it was refreshing to find not 1 but 2 local shops that specialize in the THM425 and 500cid V8.

I left the car at the second shop that promised to be completed by noon tomorrow. I will post a quick review on them after getting the car back.

Manny also specializes in the 66/67 switch pitch
version of the TH425, I have sold some controls
for these to him and some GMC owners.  Bruce Roe
