I'm going through my box of wiring trying to determine what I have and what's usable and I found 2 old positive cables.  The short one is about 42" long.20250218_133146.jpg

And the long one is 56" long and still attached to the voltage regulator.  I also have an old regulator, which I believe is an original regulator in my parts box.

Based on the specs of a replacement cable I think the longer one is the correct length for my 1961 series 62 convertible, but it has this odd fitting about 6 inches below the battery connector.

I checked the continuity of the stud and nut sticking out of the fitting, and it is connected to the battery cable.  I can't imagine what that would be for since there is a cable molded into the battery connector already.  The insulation is in good shape on both of the cables so I'd like to use one if it's the right cable.  The shorter one is a fabric insulation, the longer one is plastic with a couple lengths of cloth sleeve on it.

Anybody have a suggestion on which one of these might be appropriate for a 1961 Series 62 convertible, and what to do with that fitting so I don't have a short circuit in the making under the hood.  I guess shrink wrap is the easy answer, but I feel like it's there for a reason, but I don't know what it is.

Here are my original cables.

Positive cable, also still connected to voltage regulator.

A piece of insulation is hog ringed to it. I dont know why.

New cables from lectric limited

I am curious about the proper routing of the negative cable up along the battery.

I also need to dust my car.

So I'm going with the long one being original.  It also has a section of fabric hog ringed to it.  I think I'll cut that odd fitting out and add a new battery connector.  I don't want to risk shrink wrapping that nut and have it rub through down the road.
