What is the correct color for the interior of the trunk of
a 39 LaSalle coupe? I think the inner ferder wells in the trunk
are black by the looks of the old paint but I dont know if its
original. The under side of the deck lid appears to be body color
as are the deck lid hinges. Is this correct???

Thanks Jack Carroll

Look in your Directory and contact Terry Wenger in Ferguson, MO. He is very knowledgeable about the 1939s.

I think I can safely say that the interior color of the decklid was always body color. Speaking for the cars in that era, the trunk had cardboard panels inserted with a fabric cemented to them. The deck interior of my 38-60S is still original and the trunk floor has a ribbed rbber mat, cut to fit the floor. Since its a 6 wheel model, the entire trunk floor has the mat.

In some instances, and Im referring to the 90 series cars, both my 38 and 39 90 cars had wood framed decklids, and had a carpeting on the decklid interior, and the carpeting had binding on its periphery. The rest of the trunk was done similarly.

Indeed, they didnt spiff it up as much on the LaSalles!

Doug & Barry, thanks for the info. As most projects with these cars, they start out simple then immeditly turn into a much bigger one. The car was done over about 14 years ago and some things are still original and some have been redone ,so Ive
been tring to sort out which details are correct.

Thanks again for your help
