Cables cut on 77 drivers mirror

Is there any way to use this mirror when the cables have been cut rather than just removed?  It is from a 1976 -1978 Cadillac and will fit my 77 Eldorado....the mirror has the thermometer.  I won it on eBay but I did not see (read...dumb me) that the guy had cut the cables.  Any advice or is this one for the box in the garage?

Well, I doubt you can splice them.  You may be able to use the cables from your old mirror assembly.    It will require some disassembly but should be do-able.

Cant you use the housing with the thermometer with the existing mirror that has working cables on it?

Brian, the housing is an all in one piece so I would have to change out the mirror and cables.  I will have to remove the cables from the new unit to see what it will take to exchange the cables.  If I break something, then at least I will have the original mirror in working condition.  I shall also check NAPA to see what I can buy...ie cables to see what is available.  I have yet to receive the unit.  Im still pretty excited about it though.  Silly little thing...but I love the thermometer.  Its so clever.

Yeah it does but I am not sure how. The cable is held in place by metal tabs that easily break.  I will have to get the unit to see how I can disassemble it.

  I have a complete mirror assembly from a 78 SDV, if that will help.  I dont know if it will fit Eldo or not.  The thermometer is faded and reads a little too high.  Email me if you want it.

Thank you, Denise!  I will let you know.  Those mirrors were all the same as far as I understand it.  I have an extra thermometer too so that might be a deal.

  Isnt it funny?  I couldnt give the whole car away, but it seems that everyone wants a part or two from it.  I guess I should put it in the back yard before I pull any more parts, so the neighbors wont complain.

  Im pulling the armrests for someone already, which requires removing the door panels, so removing the mirror should be no problem.

It is good to see that you have found the magic way of turning an unsaleable car into money.

I find that it is more productive to sell off a car as parts, as most people cant stand to have the whole car, but will purchase bits and pieces.

Plus, you end up with lots of bits and pieces to add to the workshop supplies before the car-case goes to the tip.
