The seller, "jemguy47" ACTUALLY bought the car via ebay in Febuary this year(4518863440) from "starrycars"in PA (not Florida). The factory engraved, gold plated "Talisman" plaque, is ACTUALLY a brass fake made to appear correct.  The car was ACTUALLY a NORTH CAROLINA car through 2004, NOT Florida the home of Jackie Gleason. A prior owner of the car for over 15yrs actually bought the car from the original family (You guessed it NOT the Gleasons!) in North Carolina...the car had OVER 100k at that time. There was no "Jackie Gleason" plaque in the car through his ownership in 2004. He sold it via ebay to "Starrycars". My seller "Gemguy47" deals in watches and jewelry...do you suppose he does engraving too, hmmm????

As a fellow Talisman owner (1975) I am always interested in anything to do with one of these cars ........ so, do you have the car in your possession now?  What kind of shape is it in?  And the mileage shown on the e-Bay site was off by what, 100,000 miles?  What is the condition of the interior?  Any other information youd care to share would be of interest to me.

Jack.

I do have it...thats when the car spoke for itsself. It runs OK but the valve train is noisy. Interior is just OK...drivers seat shows wear, but could be worse I suppose for 133k. the drivers door panel without cracks (translation: Cracks)...rear 1/4s, as advertised, "show some rust" (translation: rusty). Underside of the car does appear to be pretty good. The Seller has talismans as well and that is why I held him to a higher standard when he said the gold plated plaque appeared genuine when compared to his other talisman. remember hes a jeweler...yet cant tell gold from brass???

So are you happy with the car or do you feel ripped off? Its hard to tell from your posts. Did you examine the car before you bought it or did you buy it sight-unseen and feel that it was misrepresented? Do you feel like you paid too much for a clapped-out heap or did you get a decent car, dubious history notwithstanding? Is it a fake Talisman or has the plate merely been exchanged for one that suggests celebrity history?

Also, anyone else noticed that this forum is E-X-C-E-P-T-I-O-N-A-L-L-Y S-L-O-W these days? It took a good 3 minutes just for this reply window to open. And it isnt my connection--I have another window open on another web site (gotta do something while Im waiting) and it works as quickly as it should.

The E-bay auction indicates that the seller is/was a member of the CLC.  Do we know him?

I feel ripped off. Kinda like your leg was peed on yet you were told it was raining. Purchased sight unseen...I did have discussions on the phone with him...we talked about each others other Talismans. He assured me that the plaque, special only to talismans, was genuine and that he could compare it to the plaque in his other Talisman. Then all the Florida poop that was used to support the celebrity poop. Followed by the "really nice condition" poop to support the claim of actual miles. It is a real Talisman...just not one that I would have purchased otherwise. He is also from Ohio, and a member of the buick club as well...watch out you might run into him, bring a pooper scooper!

You could check the roster and narrow it down to someone with a 59 Cadillac and a 74 talisman in Ohio? Probably best to avoid names.

Jack McClow CLC #15840

Hmmmmmmmm, I dont have a plaque ......... and I know for certain my Talisman is authentic ......... I have a blank silver thing above the notepad ........ should there be a plaque there?  What should it say?  "Jackie Gleason owned this car"?  (Sorry, just kidding ..... I couldnt resist.)  But seriously, were these cars delivered with a plaque for every owner?  Ive never heard of this before.

Jack.

I could email an image of an actual one. There should be a factory plaque that reads "this Fleetwood Talisman crafted for XXXXX". It would be mounted in that "silver thing" location intended for the plaque which is just above the clip board. Unless you want a brass copy with Jackie Gleason....I would try James Garner to be different!

Jack McClow CLC #15840

Good idea ........ James Garner it is.  This change alone should increase the cars value ten-fold.

If you could e-mail me a picture of a proper plaque I would most certainly appreciate your effort.  This string is the very first time I have heard about these personalized plaques for the Talismans ......... since I bought mine from the original owners wife (he died) Ill probably never know why he didnt have a plaque made up for himself ........ does the plaque stick to that "silver thing" (as it is now being called), or is that actual piece of silver supposed to have the engraving on it directly? ......... in which case I dont know how I would get it off to have it engraved.  My e-mail address is:  jack@mcclow.com.

Thanks so much.

Thank you Mr. wm Link for the photos of a plaque from one of your Talismans .......... all three pictures came though in fine condition.  Now I know what my car should have in that blank space under the console lid.  I cant believe Ive had that car for over two years now and nobody has mentioned my missing plaque.

Thanks again for taking the time to send to pictures.  I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Jack.
