Hello,  Can anyone tell me how many 38 Cadillacs, model 60S, were built with the divider glass between the front and rear compartment? Special Cars Interest (S.I.A., #62, PAGE  10,) advised total production was approximately 3,700 as it came out in Spring of 1938, but I would like to know about production figures with the glass divider.  Thanks,  Joe

THe parts book that covers these cars only lists model 38-6019S which is the 4 door sedan. In 1939 &40 there is a model 6019F which is an Imperial sedan. The 38 model in the production figure lists only has the sedan (3587), export sedan (108) and bare chassis (8). The 39 models list 55 units with divider, but these also had the sun roof. In 1940 110 units divider and 3 units divider and sun roof.Warren

I know why you are asking this.. I was just looking at the same listing for this car.. I am a 38 60 Special junky and I have never seen or even heard of a 38 division window special.. Someone grab that car before I do.. It could be a one off, or the set up from a 39/40 was installed in this car at some point.

Interesting thing about the dividers and sunroofs. I have one of the 41 divider 60 Specials. The body plate reads: 41-6019SF. the catalogue describes it as a Formal sedan. The divider window in a 75 makes it an IMPERIAL sedan.

Its entirely possible that the 38-60S in question was made as a prototype for possible equipment in 39. Youd need a copy of the invoice from the archives. It might show it, but it might not either. Modifications like that were often done in the Fisher Body garage in Detroit. If it were a factory offering, the body plate would show the body style as 38-6019SF. Styling could have made the conversion as well.

If you look at the MoToR year book for the 1939 model announcements, youll see a Cadillac 60S with a sunroof pictured. It tells that the sunroof will be a 39 option on certain body styles in Fisher Bodies. Remember that the 38 and 39 60 Specials had FISHER name plates on them. But look at the picture carefully. Its a 38 60S with a sunroof! So, there was such an animal, but it wasnt a production car. It would be nice to have it, but it was surely baled up decades ago. I sort of feel that the divider window 38 was a trial build.
