Cadillac Broughams of the late 70s, and 80 used P225X75R15s, but Devilles used P215X75R15s.  Why was a different size used on these two models? I have learned that P225 series with a 1.3-1.6 inch white wall are no longer available in a Delta Dimension or Broadway Classic.  P215 and P235 are still available in both brands.  What size would be recommended for the Brougham? I can purchase a 7/8-inch white wall tire in a P225X75R15 at a very reasonable price: $69 each including shipping.  It is made by Yokohama, the parent brand of the Delta Dimension.  Should I purchase this tire maintaining the P225 series for the car? I currently have Uniroyale Royal Seal tires (no longer available) that appears to still be in good condition with 24,000 miles on them.  Advise.

George, I would go for the 225s to match the original size on the car.  Its hard to tell why they offered the bigger tires on the Brougham, other than maybe to make the more expensive car stand out a little.  My 81 Brougham came with and has 215s on it.

Check your local tire stores.  The 215 seems to still be a popular size for some reason.  I just got 2 new ones for my 78 CDV for $40 each. I just walked in and they had 20 in stock. They have a 1ish white wall that looks pretty good on the deville. They were some sort of special buy I guess. Some crazy brand like Runway Enduro.   The 215 vs 225 does not seem to look that much differnt on cars but going to the 235 seems more noticable.  I think it depends on how large the wheel openings are, like with rear skirts you probally wouldnt know the differnce assuming they will fit and not rub.

Just comes down to how much you want to pay and how hard you want to search for what you think looks good.

I just measured the new tires and the white walls on the new ones are 1 1/4.  The old ones, Generals I think are more like 5/8
