Switch ?

What is the small red button and on and off switch underneath dash left of steering colum? All one unit on a 1950 Cadillac. Located just right of small vent door. Red button is straight up and down. Both part of a small grey box abount three inchs.

Theres no such critter on my 50 Cadillac.  Sounds like someone may have installed a security system on your car.  You need to trace the wires and see where they go to determine what its function is (or was).  Russ Hobden #1235
