In my ongoing saga I found out today that the restoration shop bolted the fender skirts on. So, that means they tore off the bar and brace that attaches so it can be removed to change the tire. Does anyone know if all 50-53 fender skirt mechanisms are the same? I found the picture below on Ebay. The parts missing are in the middle of the skirt. Thanks, Jim

G'day Jim,

So I take it that you won't be recommending that shop to anyone?

JIM, Not being a Cadillac man of that era, I think you should let the folks know what year the ones pictured are from. It would seem that the lower one can be made to function ok by cuting it to length, and the one in the upper photo could be made to function by welding a peice on to make it long enought. I found and bought a pair on EBay. I'll see how the application to mine goes. Yes, Bruce, not only will I not recommend but will add this issue to the court transcript in the lawsuit! Here are the photo's if interested:  http://flickr.com/photos/23837123@N04/sets/

G'day Jim,

Very nice looking car from the initial photographs.

That is some really nasty-looking rustatiousness underneath, and out of initial sight.

PS.   The mechanism on those skirts looks the same as the ones on the '59 and '60, so I can imagine that GM used that style for many years.

Thanks Bruce. Rust issues are ALL gone now. I found a set on EBay so I will see how the removal goes.  Jim
