Mine broke. Part number 350 7109. My master parts manual shows 1942 and 1946 are the same. Do you think it could be welded back together? Jeff

I have a tube and dipstick out of a  '48, not sure it is the same for a '42 (it is curved at the upper end, not straight like my '41). If you are interested, I can send you photo next week, e-mail direct for more info.

G'day Jeff,

Virtually anything can either be repaired or re-built.

I am not aware of the construction of the early Dipsticks, but if it is anything like the later ones, and made out of "Spring" Steel, then it will need careful de-tempering, welding and re-tempering to bring it back to being flexible.

Depending on where the break is, it might even be possible to replace the end, and re-stamp the markings, as per the original, but if it is broken up where it can be seen, then other methods might be warranted to restore it.
