I  have  literally turned my house upside down to find what I know I already have. I have succeeded in losing the "de" of my Coupe de Ville" script for the side of my car.
I had it this morning but after spending 6 hours or more trying to find it back again, I am just bagging it and will try to find another. I have lost it really good this time , I guess!
Anybody have one they are able to sell to me?

You will probably have to buy the full letter set, but McVey's would have that. It's gonna hurt...probably $100 per side.  www.mcveys.com.

When you find it, it will be in the "last place that you look".   :)

Here's the catch:  If all the scrips you have on the car now are ORIGINAL, the replacement will stick out like a sore thumb.  The originals are gold anodized aluminum, not 24k gold plated.

I lost the "Coupe" script on the '57 once.  Not only was the replacement the wrong plating, but the letters were rounded off, not sharp like the original.  So, the only way to make it work was to completely replace both sides.  Thankfully, I found an original in good enough shape that it matches.

You can't see both sides at the same time so I wouldn't worry too much about that unless you're going for points judging.

Who's going to notice that? Nobody but you and maybe a few car nuts.

Did you look in the trunk? Maybe it fell in between the trunk floor and the side panel.

You just need to retrace your steps. If you had it, then it's there. Where? I don't know. But, it's there.

And yes, it'll be in the last place you look, because why would you look any further ??  :D ::)

You guys just wouldn't believe it unless you were with me Saturday morning when this happened. At 7 am I had my hands on it on my workbench and was sizing the pins for push clips for installing the scripts. I then mounted my front fender chrome on the car, which was about 10 feet away from the workbench. Went back later to retrieve the script and I couldn't find it. I think the Devil moved it and took it to a dark vortex hole, probably the same one that I have been throwing money down. After 6 hours of moving everything and cleaning everything and praying every prayer I could think of and retracing every step I took that day and even some I didn't, I still don't have the blooming thing. I'm convinced that the paint fumes and sanding dust have now officially taken their toll. Set me in a wheelchair and prop me up outside in the sun every once in awhile, will you please? Feeding is optional.
I'm sure, judging by your replies, that we all have a story like this but I have NEVER had one without a resolve. Once, I put a rare stainless trim piece I was working on on the rear deck of my wife's car for "safe keeping" so I didn't step on it. I left for a moment and yep, she decided to take that car for a spin. 2 hours later I realized where my piece had gone, so I rushed out down the street and found it at the next corner having been driven over by several cars and probably some construction trucks. That is one way I had "resolve"! This one, though, I have nothing?

PS Forrest, did you get the pics?

Hi Chuck,

Sorry I haven't gotten back with you sooner. I was gone all weekend to the annual Drive Invasion (hot chicks, bands, cars, beer ).

I did get your pictures. Your car looks great. That paint job is nice. Black is tough to do correctly.

Your engine compartment is gorgeous too - everything's so nice and neat. I like your correct copper ac tubes and your shiny brass header tank.

I'm confused though. The picture has your Coupe de Ville emblems installed on both sides. What gives?

The pics were taken Friday evening. The scripts were just pinned through the holes with no clips. Saturday morning I went out to finish the install and that's when the whole fiasco started. Good observation, Forrest! I even referred back to the pics myself to make sure I wasn't just dreaming that I did, in fact, have the scripts at one point
on Friday. What a waste of time this has been. Glad to hear of you, though, and hope all is well in your world. Sounds like it is!! I want to be just like you when I grow up.
