The link above references a '64 Fleetwood that rolls across the auction block next month in Arizona.  The description includes:

The car has won several awards, including an AACA Junior and Senior National First Prize Award, AACA Grand National Award and a Cadillac LaSalle Club national first place award with medallion.

A check of the AACA national awards 2005-2009 does not show this car being listed.  Does anyone know what year this car received its CLC award?  Is anyone familiar with this car???

Hard to get more than just the head-on view of it. Without seeing more, it's probably a nice car. I wouldn't take the puffery of these auction houses too much to heart, though. The seller could have padded definitions with a lot of BS, or the auction house might have added their touch. These guys are based in my area, and they're smoooooth operators.

I like the color: Sea Crest Green, whish was the color of the '64 convertible I once had.

Supposedly, this car came from a collector in California.  Does that help anyone's recollection?   There's a link within the ad where you can see additional photos.

The RM listing refers to a CLC "medallion", which is probably a CLC senior badge.  Typically the senior badge is displayed on the back-side of the inside rear view mirror.  All those badges are numbered, and our Directory has a complete list of all the cars that won senior badges, including the badge number and the owner's name, going back to the '80s when these badges were first issued.

An auction representative should be willing to look at that medallion and give you the number, which will then enable you to identify who owned the car when it won the award.

RM's value estimate is $30K-$40K.  Overly optimistic?  You bet.   It would appear that none of the awards this car has garnered have been earned in recent years.  Thus, I think its safe to say whatever restoration work this car has received is not fresh.  Consequently, I'd say the value of this car is about half of RM's estimate.

Steve ,

This car looks identical to the Bill Goudy’s ’64 that took a Senior at Lancaster PA in ‘92 or ’93. Bill was from Ohio. I don’t believe there are that many ’64 Senior Fleetwoods that color combination out there. I’d ask what number is on the badge.

I will be at this and the other auctions in Arizona in January. If you want me to look at it and call you, I would be glad to do it. No charge.

Thanks for the offer to take a look at this '64 Fleetwood.  While I'd love to bid on it, I'd first have to induce my wife with a perpetual coma.   :D   I did send an email inquiry to RM Auctions about this car's AACA and CLC award history.  A gal got back to me pretty quickly and said she'd forward my request to the appropriate person who can answer my questions.  Haven't heard anything back yet, but with Christmas and New Year's, I don't expect to hear anything for another week or so.

OK, I heard back from RM Auctions.  Here's what they said about this '64 Fleetwood.

AACA National First Prize Winner 1994 Badge #27FO639
AACA Grand National Winner 1996
Cadillac LaSalle Club Senior Badge # 57.  No year listed on this badge. I would assume it won its award somewhere between 1994 and 1996.

Obviously, whatever restoration work that may have been done isn't particuarly fresh, so RM's $30-$40K estimate is ridiculously high.  But, for someone who wants a nice driver collector car, I think the fact that its an older restoration is in their favor.

Comments welcome.

Ralph Messina's memory was correct.  This car was owned by Bill Goudy, from Ohio.  The senior badge was awarded in Chicago in 1988.

Personally I would rather have a car that was restored some years ago (assuming it still looks very good) than a fresh restoration.  Sometimes a freshly-restored car will begin to deteriorate when it is exposed to time and changes in temperature, depending on how the metal was prepared for paint, or how the body work was done.  With an original car, or a car that was restored many years ago, you're not likely to have surprises of this nature.

I believe this car is from the Eddie Dauer collection in Florida.
He has some of the BEST cars around. Many, many AACA National Award winners.
He is taking 12 cars to the RM auction.

After seeing a 62 or 64 Lincoln 4D HT sell at a Gooding auction at Pebble Beach for over $80K, anything is possible.

His cars are spectacular and in my opinion anything under $35K would be a bargain. :-)

This car sold for just under 30K (which was the low end of the estimated $30-40K range)

The owner/seller of the 64Fleetwood, also owned the 66 Eldo, the 58 Biarritz, 59 Seville, 57 Buick Convertible, 59 DeSoto Adventurer, 93 Allante, plus a few more. His 58 Biarritz that sold for around 136K, was a much better car than the one sold at BJ for $150K.
It is pretty tough to beat out AACA National Award winning cars.
