Hello everyone.

I've just bought a 1960 Coupe DeVille that has just been imported to the UK from Florida. It's a project and I'm guessing I'll be needing as much advice as I can get over the next few months. The car seems quite complete - what isn't on the car seems to be in the trunk. It runs a 350 SBC and overdrive gearbox. The engine is mounted properly, but I suspect the gearbox isn't properly supported (there's a suspicious bit of 1" box section visible from above, haven't got underneath it yet). Looks like someone started to rewire it and stopped, so the driver's footwell is full of wires and the old harness is in the trunk. The interior is a bit rough - the seats will need recovering, but the rest can be saved. The petrol tank has a huge dent in it and the ends of the seemingly new exhaust system have been crushed. Maybe I'll be lucky and find that's all that needs to be fixed.

The bodywork doesn't appear to be too bad, but I'll find out more no doubt when I come to paint it. I'm thinking a satin black would look nice, black steel wheels and wide whites.

Welcome & congratulations on your new purchase, it looks great parked next to the Chevy Stepside.   :)

The CLC Modified Chapter has a good amount of information available in its Documents Section; original factory service bulletins, Master Parts Listings, Illustrated Parts Catalogs, sales brochures, etc.     Be sure to consider the 1959 information also as the 1960 shares a lot, but not all of the 59's components/features, etc.

If you don't already, I'd strongly suggest acquiring a 1959 Cadillac Shop Manual along with the 1960 Supplement.  Although they won't be too much help on dealing with your 350 SBC & wiring issues, both pieces will together provide information on solving future maintenance and repair questions.  In my opinion, the paper copies are best but CD versions are also available likely at a lesser cost.

Good luck!

Welcome, and what a lovely picture.

Don't forget to built a Car Port to protect her from your wet weather.   The Chev can stay outside, but you need to protect your new Pride and Joy.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Carfreak, I've ordered the 59 & 60 manuals on CD. Thanks for the links they look really useful. I've been reading the owner's handbook with great interest - so the front bench seat is electric? Who'd have thought that, back in 1960?

Paul57, yes it's the one from Romford and thanks for the offer of help.

Bruce, I'd planned a car port before I bought it - probably won't get the whole car under it. Reckon what I really need is a barn.

I've got ten days off after today, so I'll soon find out what I've got myself into.

Cheers.
