I just ordered a set of center brass emblems for my 56 Sombrero hubcaps from Mcveys. I'm planning on takng the old tarnished ones out and polishing them up and selling them. has anyone had good luck with this? Or should I cancel my order and just posish up the ones I already have? Does the brass clean up nice? Just wondering because those little emblems are pricey. WOW!
And uses too much gas
Some folks say it's too old
And that it goes too fast
But my love is bigger than a Honda
It's bigger than a Subaru
Hey man there's only one thing
And one car that will do
Anyway we don't have to drive it
Honey we can park it out in back
And have a party in your pink Cadillac

Christopher,

They sure are $$$$…!  :o

I cleaned and polished them with no problem the old paint was gone so it was not a big deal. The biggest hassle was getting them painted with all of the intricacies grooves and the crest. I did not like my first attempt at painting them so I will be redoing them, one of my multiple items on the to-do list.

Good luck..!

At one time I had 4 56 Cads.  Two series 75 Derham limos, a Hess and Eisenhardt wagon, and an Eldorado Biarritz.  No one was reproducing these emblems. When the cars were new, there were two suppliers for the emblems.  One emblem had the Ducks raised,  on the other the Ducks were recessed.  It is almost impossible to paint an emblem that has the raised Ducks.  The sunken Ducks were such that one could drop the paint into the recess.  I stripped mine, buffed them, painted the appropriate colors back in, and then cleared them.  They actually came out pretty nice.   This requires more patience than I have now.

Jose,
I'm going to clean them up the best I can, the paint is still on them but they are dark. I was hoping to get them clean, take photo's make sure I match the paint exactly and repaint them. Although the paint looks to be all the way up almost flush with the surface. I'll give it my best shot. Do a little research on how to get them clean.

Thanks for the advice.

You stripped them completely? What did you clean them up with? Brillo pad and Brass cleaner? I plan on clearing the new ones as soon as they come to the house.

If you have little recess areas where the paint goes, use a tooth pick to paint them. Dab in paint and move it around in the recess. I painted the emblems on my 78 hub caps like that.
Brasso works well on brass.

Chris,

There are fine tip paint pens which could help in getting the paint inside these crevices.

Good luck..!
