Could someone shoot me a picture of where the "J" seal goes on a 1957 series 62 2-Dr HT?

I've got the seals and have tried many alternatives, but can't seem to find the holes for the two plugs at the top of the seal....may have been covered up during body work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,  Dan

By the "J"seal, are you referring to the one on the inner top of the door at the vent window?  Does it look like a rain gutter when viewed in cross-section?

This seal is roughly in the shape of a "J", about 17 inches on one leg, and about 5 inches on the other.

I'm under the impression that this goes on the door near the hinges....but for the life of me, I can't see how it fits. Thanks,     Dan

There are 2 door seals on the '57.  The main one starts at the top of the vent window at the roof line and goes around the entire door and ends at the top rear of the door.  The other one (the one I think you are referring to) goes on the top of the dogleg of the door at the inside (where the inner door upholstery meets the door) and ends just above the top door hinge.  The top portion of this was glued onto the door and then there were clips that held the lower portion on.  It acted like a rain gutter to deflect water from getting into the hinges and door jamb switch.

Walter - I kinda get what you're saying, but a picture would be worth a thousand words. I've attached an image of these seals so you can see what I'm dealing with.

Walter Youshock

Yep--they're the ones.

I'll try to get a photo for you tomorrow.

Dan,

I'm attaching a picture of the "J" seal locations from the 1956 manual installation steps. If you have a 1957 manual it should give you the details on how to place the new seal. There are two clips that holds the bottom and the circle #1 is the vent hold which should be left uncovered.

Hope this helps..!

Good luck..!

Jose - That's it! Thanks so much for the image....I had this thing upside down, backward and inside out! I'll sleep tonight.   Regards,   Dan

Is that from the Shop Manual or a Body Manual?  There is no drawing like that in the '57 Shop Manual.

Walter,

The picture is from the 1956 Shop Manual Section 14 body. Surprised Cadillac did not include the same for the 1957 Shop Manual.  :o

Jose,

Many thanks for the drawing.

I am not at that stage just yet but I would be like Dan. I would have had no idea where that "J" seal went.

Now I do.
