Hello fellow members, Im trying to get some information on a heat riser for a '53 caddy model 60s.  Based on my research it does not appear that they reproduce a heat riser for any '53 model.  Can some one in the group confrim this?  It does appear they reproduce '49-'51 and '54-'64 risers.  I own a '49 Club coupe and was able to purcahse one for this car.  Is the '53 much differnt then the '49,'50', '51 or '54.  Is it possible to retrofit one of the other years or prehaps just remove the interanl parts of the riser and run the car without the butterfly,  thank you in advance for your help, carl

'52s and '53s exhaust manifolds are different from '49s to '51s, featuring larger ports to accomodate the (then new) 4-barrel intake. Exhaust manifold gaskets are different as well.

I don't know the difference between '53s and '54s.

It certainly is possible to simply remove the innards and re-install the riser.  It will work fine.  It will take longer for the engine to warm, but nothing more.

I have a small stock of spacers I made to take the place of the heat riser.  $25 including shipping in the continental US.

Even a spacer will be year sensitive. A spacer made for a pre-1951 manifold may not fit a post-1952 one because stud location is not exactly the same (3" between studs instead of 2-7/8"). It can be seen on gaskets, as different gaskets are included in "universal" 331 exhaust gasket kits. Plus, it seems heat risers do not have the same thickness. So, be sure to check all dimensions fit.

Been there, done that...

Carl,

I'll call you this afternoon.  The spacers I have are 1/2 thick.  The heat riser valve is 9/16 or 5/8 thick.  This small difference in thickness won't cause any trouble, especially on a car with dual exhaust.
