Interesting is one way to put it.

I did not know you could put a car back to 0 miles.

Obviously, he had to do something to spice up the bland, white bread look of the 1959 Caddy!

Hello ladies and gentleman

This is a perfect example of the capabilities of the human imagination?
All good men own a Cadillac but great gentlemen drive a LaSalle. That is the consequence of success.

Hey look, I don't know about club rules, but that sucks. Is that a dealer option? Horrible/terrible comes to mind. Its like a big flashing sign telling me not to buy this otherwise very nice Cadillac. Well maybe upholstery colors would be liked by someone.  :'( M2CW.

So for those that follow those cars would it have likely sold for $135k if it did not have that rather odd rear kit on it?

I'm amazed the bidding is at $72,100. Then again, perhaps it's worth that much and you can remove the rear.

So even without that rear the $72K seems high?

Either way those are just ever so slightly out of my price range its going to be a while before I have to really pay attention.

I wish Ebay would allow re-sorting the bids to show in order of date of bid.  On this car one guy 5***t( 232) bid $72,000 four hours after the listing was posted on Aug-17-12 22:22:46 PDT.  The highest bidder was h***e( 165) at $72,100.  But it took him seven bids on the 19th to out bid 5***t( 232).  The next higher bidder was 1***w( 3500) at $35,555.55.

I can think of a couple of things that could imply.

When I look at it, it does show the date and time of bids, in order.

So that tells us that at least the 'ebay market value' of that car is $35,000?

The eBay market changes from week to week.

I would think that by unbolting the rear spare accessory the car would be very interesting. It has a full restoration with only a few miles since.

I'd get rid of the rear end treatment and put the rear bumper back to its original configuration.
Then I'd list the super rare 59 Cadillac continental kit as a separate item and let a couple of dreamers fight over it. It will bring over $2000 I bet.

The car will sell better without it for sure.

The continental kit sold by the factory and or Whitney from Chicago to be installed on the '50 cars is (was)  an aberration. This one mile long Cadillac became a 1 1/2 mile long...ugly!  The only reason to have a Continental Kit was trunk space ...Lincoln Continental (1940-1948), the little Metropolitan and my Toyota Rav4. The rest is baloney!

I am concerned about the possibility of shill bidding.  I had a seller shill bid to see how high I bid.  He bid it up until he had the high bid, then told me the high bidder backed out.

It is possible the seller put in the $72K bid to make it look like a hot item and stir up more and higher bids.  Or he was he was feeling out the $72K bidder to find out how high he was willing to go and push up the bid.  Or it could be just my suspicious mind running away.

Actually, I was under the impression that when there was a Reserve Price, no matter what a person bid, it always went to the highest bid that was bid.

In this case, the highest bid that was placed many days ago, stayed low, and was only automatically raised by the subsequent bids till now.

Seems strange.

You are right that the high bid must be above the reserve to sell.  But that does not prevent the seller form playing mind games with the bidding.  If the bidding stays low the bidding could be slow and stay low.  But if it immediately goes high there will be some “excitement” generated that could push it over the top.

Also the seller could contact the high bidder and make a deal after he pushed the bidding up.
