I'm looking for a source for a fan belt for a 1939  Lasalle 5019. I got my last ones from McVey but they no longer carry them. All cads list one but it's too long. I've been to Gates and everyone else I can think of with no luck.

Are these different from the ones used on the Cadillacs of the same year?

Here's notes I made when sourcing my fan belt for a 1940 60 Special:
For WIDE belts: go to the Goodyear "Gatorback" belt application site to determine the part number for the desired length of your belt: http://www.goodyearep.com/productsdetail.aspx?id=11752
Then go to a retailer who supplies these belts.  I've found two good sources:
http://www.coolparts.com/products/Gatorback_V_Belts-87428-0.html   (less expensive)
and

George,

Thanks for posting this. Made me go back to the article I wrote in the Self Starter last year on Fan  Belts.

Seems that I wanted the article to say that the width of the belt was 1 & 1/64" wide it came out as 11/64". I did not catch the error. Will print a correction.

I also stated for the 1939 LaSalle that the belt was 60" long instead of the correct length of 36", was not one of my most correct articles.

As to the belt, we have a Cadillac reseller who says he has the correct 1939 LaSalle Belt for a mere $102.00 plus shipping. No size listed but if you want to check it out the e-bay listing # is 321329198505.

The belts for these engines are a minefield, they will fit the same as Cadillac of each year but as body styles got lower and lower so they had to lower the radiator, thus the fan,  making a shorter belt. Add to that they changed the width of the pulleys for later years.
The one on ebay looks far too long at over 40"

Would this belt work?

There's no image, but it is a 4 strand belt that looks like 4 small vees shoulder to shoulder.

Robert,

Close but no cigar.

It will probably work but will make noise and probably not last long.

The V for this belt is 60 degrees where the original is 34 degrees so it will not sit in the pulley properly. Also the belt is 1 & 1/8" while the original is 1 & 1/64" so this belt is too wide. This generally is what is wrong with belts today, no good fit.
