Never heard of a frame number.  There is a VIN number which is under windshield driver side at dash and on st st name plate on firewall visible when hood is raised.

Hello Svein,

Usually we use the number Scot mentioned which is on the dash, looking through the windsheild, near the sticker and steering wheel of your car.

A number may also be located on your engine, but not sure where.

Gorgeous car!

The number on the frame is located on the top of the right rear frame rail, to the right of the gas tank.  Yes, I said Top.  As in you have to remove the body to see it.

There is a partial VIN (last six digits) at the top left rear of the engine.  See my reply to "chassis VIN number location, 1968 coupe deville" for pictures.

There is also a VIN number stamped on the left side of the transmission.  It is NOT on the riveted plate on the right side.

Here's a picture of the VIN on a Buick transmission; should look about the same.  The picture is at the bottom of this page:

Of course the transmission could have been replaced.  So could the engine, but that's rare.

You say;The number on the frame is located on the top of the right rear frame rail, to the right of the gas tank.  Yes, I said Top.  As in you have to remove the body to see it.

I was thinking of that Buddy.I saw the same on a 1973 Ford Frame.
No,I think the 76 Cadillacs had NO frame numbers on the front-Frames,as the others had.
My 37 Lasalle has,and I found it on my sold 60 coupe too.
Anyway THANKS.I hade to hammer in the Vin # behind the left front wheel,on the frame..
Best regards to all af you..
