Hi, new here so I'm hoping someone can help out. I have inherited a 1942 Cadillac series 62, along with it a registration card and title. The problem is the deceased purchased an antique junkyard and this was one of the cars. I would like to make sure the title matches the car, I have searched the internet for possible serial number locations and all that I have found after looking no serial numbers were found. I have looked on the frame rail in front and back of the engine mount on both sides. I have also looked for the engine number on the front right of the block, the number I found there didn't match anything. It is IAD8221. I was wondering if someone knows where else it could be or am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks, E. Hara

The chassis number position changed sides for 1942 and is located on the right hand side (passenger) just behind the engine mount.  Its very, very faint so you really have to clean that area well with nothing too abrasive or you may remove it.   Your engine number should have been the same starting 838.  Your looking in the right place but it looks like its had an engine change, maybe a military engine?

See attached photo.  The red arrows indicate the two places where you should find the engine number for the car.  The number on the frame takes precedence over the one found on the engine if the two numbers are different.  The number should start with the digits 838 as Steve mentioned and should be 7 digits long.
