I'm planning on removing the vac wiper motor from my '41 which will either be rebuilt or replaced. The car isn't with me at the moment so I can't check how easy (or not !) removal and refitting is.

Any advice welcome please.

First remove the front seat base. Lay on your back with a torch and get your head under the dash. There is a special spring holding the actuating arms to the motor, just lift it off. Depending on the motor position there may be a cable attaching the knob to the motor. Remove the two slotted screws holding the motor and feed it out.

Thanks once again Steve, I'll have a go this weekend and let you know how I get on.

Finally got round to removing the vacuum wiper motor on Friday - very simple 5 minute job (didn't even need to remove the seat base Steve).

On removal I noticed that the vacuum pipework under the dash connecting connecting the engine take off to the motor which incorporates 2 T-pieces was old and lose so I cleaned and lightly oiled the motor and replaces the crappy vacuum pipe (about 8" in total).

The end result is that I now have wipers which graduate from slow to outrageously fast exactly as they should.

Total cost was about £3.00 which has got to be the best value for money Cadillac repair in history plus I won't have to be without the car while the motor was sent for repair.

Thanks for all the advice received, now it's time to move on to the next problem....
