Gentleman,
With some hesitation, I am listing my 1939 Cadillac 75 series convertible coupe for sale.  This Fleetwood bodied convertible was one of only 27 built in 1939, with only approximately 5 surviving today. This particular car was featured in the factory’s Fleetwood brochure, with its striking combination of Kingston gray over green leather. The 141” wheelbase was shared with the V-16 models of that year.  Our car was originally delivered by the factory to Seattle, WA.  It was later discovered in 1990, after spending 30 years in a Vancouver auto museum.

The car underwent a painstaking 3 year nut and bolt restoration by the prior owner to factory specifications.  Its then owner was the co-author of the authenticity manual on this model, as well as technical advisor to the CCCA and Cadillac LaSalle club on these magnificent cars. He has done many show winning restorations.

Upon completion, it was a regular feature at major Concours, including Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, Meadowbrook, and the Cadillac LaSalle Club’s Grand Nationals, where it garnered Pre-War Best in Show. It was the subject of countless magazine and calendar photos as well. The car was subsequently toured by the former owner, completing a tour across the Canadian Rockies as well as across Europe.

The car entered into our fortunate stewardship in 2009 in fabulous condition.  Extensive cosmetic and mechanical sorting and refreshening was nonetheless performed of all systems to ensure that the car remained 100% authentic, completely reliable and Concours worthy for many years to come. It has since been invited to, and shown at, every major east coast Concours since 2010.

CONCOURS HISTORY

1994 CLC Grande Nationals - Seattle â€" Pre-War Best in Show

1995 Pebble Beach - perfect score, but alas no trophy

1995 Meadowbrook Concours - Blue Ribbon

1995 Forest Grove Concours - People’s Choice Award & Presidents Choice Award

1995 CCCA - Grand Classic Michigan - judged 100 points

2010 Lake Mirror Classic â€" Best Late Pre-War

2011 Amelia Island Concours

2011 Boca Raton Concours

2012 CLC Grand Nationals â€" St Augustine - 97.3 points (all deductions subsequently tended to - see below)

2012 Amelia Island Concours â€" invited to be one of 2 cars displayed in Cadillac’s corporate pavilion

2012 Ponte Vedra - Best Pre War

2013 CCCA â€" Grand Classic - Mt Dora - judged 99 points

2014 Hilton Head Concours

2015 Boca Raton Concours

After 6 years of ownership, we unfortunately just don’t have the time to bring it to additional Concours far from our area, or to drive it as intended.  This car is extremely rare, comprehensively sorted out by experts, and ready for additional Concours d'Elegance or touring.

I am asking only $140,000, or best offer, for a fabulous car that could not be recreated anywhere near this price.  Included will be literally hundreds of pages of restoration records, restoration videos, all books, mint factory tool roll, manuals and a few spares. I am a long standing CLC member and would love to see it go to the same.

Please â€" serious inquires only

Car on Hemmings 1 day, and I already get emailed from scammer.
Be careful guys, there are really shifty people out there.
Clearly people have ways to send fraudulent money via Paypal that ultimately never appears.
The guy never even asked a question about car...

Mitchell,

I received the exact response to my ad in Hemmings. These guys never sleep, so we can't either. The most secure way is to have the seller's bank issue a bank check to your bank. Your bank can verify the validity of the seller's bank and check in advance.

I'm pretty sure the next correspondence would be that he will send more than the asking price to cover shipping but you need to send the overage back from your account to the "shipper". The good news; he/she would never really come get the car. But you'd be out a couple grand.

And I hope this car doesn't sell until after I win the Lotto tonight!  ;D

The only sure way is a wire transfer.  When the money is happily sleeping in your account, you will know you have been paid.  Certified checks are no longer for sure.  Banks can receive certified checks, that never clear.  Wire transfer is the way to go.

Tony is absolutely correct.

Bank wire transfer is the only safe and secure method, besides counting cash on your kitchen table.

Just listed the car on Ebay, so I suspect the scam artists' attempts will sadly only increase.
It is a fabulous car that would be a great addition to any collection.

Best of luck. I would think that a car of this calibre should be consigned to one of the major auction houses. It certainly has the pedigree.

Thanks for the kind words. The big auction houses have some challenges - having to ship car across country, auction fees, potential buyers not having much time to evaluate it. May come to that, but had hoped to find a fellow CLC member to cherish it like I do.

Send this to one of the major auction houses as a previous poster recommended. It is a beautiful car and deserves it...

Sold to a good home. I think new buyer will be really happy with the car. I certainly will miss it. Made me surprisingly sad to see it loaded on the transport truck.

Thanks! I believe buyer actually found it in Hemmings. He appears to have a pretty significant pre-war collection, including at least one early Cadillac. Not sure if he is a member of the CLC though. Hope so.

Hello,

Now that the car is sold I can announce to the nostalgics who missed this splendid car that it exists an other one with sensibly the same colors which is for sale in Sarasota, FL. The price is higher as it is for sale by a dealer. Look at this (if necessary I can include the pictures in the post)
