FYI - If you have a newer Airtex fuel pump chances are it's the culprit.  I have a low mileage '58 60s that is on its third pump.  The internal valve or valves(easy to see with lid removed) are not pressed in properly and after a year or two will come loose, allowing some gas to be pumped back to tank, and after shutdown - voila - vapor lock.
Instead of replacing it for the fourth time, I removed the pump and punched the valves in place.  No vapor lock.  Unfortunately I never checked the first two because they were inexpensive and readily available and I thought it was just bad luck.  They both lasted about 2 years each before acting up.
This was the only reason the car ever vapor locked and with A/C and 98 degrees in stop and go traffic, never a problem!  Come to think of it, I would check any brand of fuel pump just to be sure and check all the points others have recommended.
