Anyone have a photo of the torsion bars or shocks that were installed on the 81 Devilles?

mine are missing - and i can't seem to find anything as to what the correct setup should be.

I find that the shocks are available and it seems that Cadillac did move to shocks for a period and eventually went back to torsion bars - HOWEVER, there are no ball studs or any evidnce of where shocks would have mounted on my trunk lid - and for some reason, previous owner removed the torsion bars -

thanks
Aaron

Are you sure you haven't missed the shock mounts? They're way deep in the back on the arms (toward the passenger compartment).

The E bodies got the shocks on both hood and trunk in 79 with the downsize.   They attached to a peg with a groove in it and the shock had a clip that engage the groove to keep them in place.   Last time I worked on a RWD from your era the hood or trunk didn't fall on me so I was not paying attention to how they were held up.   If they had the shocks I would think there would be some evidence of where they attached.

unless the shocks are covered up by the cardboard trunk panels

will have to take another look

OK, i found them - both shocks are still in place, but they are totally non-functional...

now - they look different from the aftermarket versions....

anyone know the original part numbers so I can find suitable replacements?

Thanks

I replaced the trunk lifts of my 1981 Fleetwood.  Attached are the kit and its instructions for installation.
