For 63 and 64 Cadillacs, the balancer is pressed on and our shop manual says to use the 1959 to 1962 balancer bolt. From experience I know that bolt is a 9/16" - 18 bolt, usually about 1 7/8" long.  Most home improvement and auto stores in my area do not carry this size but there are special online stores such as www.boltdepot.com that will have that bolt.
Also, this is the same dimensions of the 1963/64 Cadillac front bumper end bracket to frame bolts and I have a huge stock of them from the 49 1963/64 parts cars I have brought in and sell the for a couple bucks for those that need them for the balancer. I can ship one 2 to 3 day Priority to US destinations for $7 for a total of $9 if you wanted a VG+ used hardened bolt. Email me at jasonedge@nc.rr.com.

Jason the socket I used to take off the bolt was 13/16 and Im hoping that when I get the correct bolt Im gonna have to cut it cause the rest of the bolt is stuck inside.

Johnny,

Sounds like you need to talk to an engineer, if you don't have the necessary tools, as you do need to remove the broken-off piece, and fix the possibly damaged thread as you do need a full thread to install the hub correctly.

I am thinking that the engine will have to be removed to gain proper access to the area with the necessary tools.

I have never heard of a broken crankshaft bolt, and find it difficult to figure out what caused it to break in the first place.

I am referring to the bolt thread diameter (which is 9/16") and the thread density (TPI), which is 18 threads per inch. The head diameter of both the original harmonic bolt and the front bumper end bolt that can be used as a substitute have a bolt head diameter of 13/16".  The hex head bolt diameter is the easy part. Finding a bolt with shank and thread 9/16" with the 18 tpi thread density is the hard part.

If your bolt is broke off in the front of the crankshaft you will need to drill out the broken bolt and retap the threads. Even if your bolt broke off a bit inside the opening, you will probably not have enough thread left to pull the balancer onto the crankshaft and will probably end up stripping what little thread you may have at the front of the crank shaft.  If the engine is out of the car and on an engine stand you can probably drill and tap with the crank in the engine. If engine is in the car, you may have a hard time getting down there to drill out the broken bolt.   The perfect solution would be to remove the crank and take to a machine shop if you are not set up to do this yourself.

Of coarse after hunting for this bolt then finally driving 30 miles to get one. I was at my work bench looked over to the left and saw an old pulley with the correct bolt taped to it. I guess so I wouldnt loose. So I had a spare all the time.

Removing the engine does not sound attractive.

Another (maybe less painful?) option might be to remove the radiator and condenser moreover, Grill and bumper?

The Tassie Devil(le)

If you are going to go that far, removing the engine is a lot easier.

I suppose it’s a “choose your poison” situation.

The Tassie Devil(le)

I feel that it is a lot easier to remove and replace an engine that remove and reinstall all those heavy parts on the front of a '60.   And getting them properly aligned as well.

To access the front of the engine, the radiator etc has to come out, and then accessing the crankshaft snout to drill and re-tap, etc, is going to be difficult even with the engine sitting in the frame.
