So I have heard once the power truck pull down brakes its over for good.... Is this true? I just can't believe.
Does anyone know of anyone making new motors. It had to be disconnected completely as the motor just ran and ran and didn't release or pull down.

Also..... I am experiencing falling sun visors..... this is a new one for me.... Never experienced any of my Cads doing this. Is there a fix???

For those of you that helped with my ripped wreath..... the very experienced trim shop did do a patch from the inside of the seat and it came out very nice. I still know its not perfect but I am the only one that will know!

Not sure if this is any help but if my power trunk pull down was inoperative and I could still open and close my trunk - I would call it good and skip the foo foo "luxury" gee whiz feature.  Others with more knowledge may be able to help you fix it or find parts.  I have a 2000 Eldorado with that feature and if it breaks, I am going the manual route.

As for the visors, you should find that tightening up the mounting screws or tension screws help to keep the visors up.

Thanks Bryan! Well the power trunk was bypassed liked you said and that's how it is now... However I do want the foo foo feature!
Those blasted sun visors have been screwed senselessly tight!

I don't think the truck motor assembly changed all through the 80's and into the 90's and they make the motor and plastic housing still.   Switch is what I have usually found has failed unless it just got slammed and the housing broke.  Unfortunately the switch seems to be hard to find these days.

My '81 has the same problem on the LH visor. I have an oversized paper clip doody, one that is round on the bottom that I have stuck into the headliner and clipped to the edge of the visor. It's annoying, especially as I have one the right color for the RH side in my stash of parts. I am so pleased that your seat was fixed. Like I told you, you're probably the only one that will ever know and over time, you might even be able to clean the seats without flinching.
Hang in there. BW

I have the same sun visor issue on my 1980 Eldorado, and have taken a similar route as Barry - I have a large paper clip attached to the headliner in the sun roof lip - not elegant, but it holds the visor out of the way, and no one really notices it.

There are lots of posts about the sun visor issue - just type "sun visor" in the search box and look for posts for your era of car:

I also have the trunk pull-down issue - motor and housing are fine, but the switch is obviously not working since the motor just continues to cycle - I have adjusted the pull down to where it makes a tight-enough seal when the trunk is closed, and used it like that for a temporary fix - the switch for the 1980 Eldo appears to be a bit different than the ones I have found in the salvage yards, so I will leave it as-is until I am able to locate one.

Yes, I wish all my luxury foo-foo items worked or were simple to fix, but my cars are just pleasure drivers and not likely to see any judging during my ownership.

Trunk pulldown assembly should not be difficult to obtain. I believe it the same was used for all models throughout much of the '80s. If sun visor material has become floppy, it's because the foam backing has disintegrated which is 100% normal with the visors of this era.  Need to be sent out to re-upholsterer.
