Are new door springs available anywhere or do i need to look for a hinge cover? does anyone have anything for drivers side?

I think I have one for a 56 Coupe.  You would have to paint it though.  I will look in the morning.

So sorry, but they must have been in the last bunch of parts I hauled to the metal recyclers.

I'm not 100% positive,  but I think the spring/hinge cover  on all of the 54-55-56 Cadillacs are the same, per side. I would have to go out and double check  that tomorrow.  I have both a 55 and a couple of 56's.

I just went out and checked both my dealer parts book and the actual hinges, and yes, the upper hinge and the cover/spring,(or door check), is the same for all 54, 55, and 56 Cadillacs respective of side. You can use one from any drivers door from any of the 3 years.

Is this the part you're looking for? This is a right side but will work for identification purposes.

Yes. That is the part i am looking for. Ours has a broken spring. I tried to weld the spring and suprisingly it held but then broke in a different spot. i searched everywhere and can not locate a spring

Unfortunately the unit is, or rather was,  sold as a  unit as far as I can tell.  The ones I have do not appear to be serviceable in pieces.
The good news is that as I pointed out earlier , all of the models use the same one, respective of side ofcourse.
I would think that they would be fairly easy to find as salvage yards that deal with the older cars should have lots of 4 door cars. 54, 55,  and 56 are the same.
Just took the one off my 2 door 56 to verify what I said is true.
I'll post the pics here. Unfortunately the spare 55 drivers side I have has a broken spring just like yours. You can see it sticking out in the picture.
The one with the green-ish paint is the 55.
I wouldn't swear to it, but I think that the same years of Buick Roadmaster and Special use the same hinge. Someone with an interchange manual that goes back farther than mine could tell you.

So the 2dr and 4dr are the same?  That would open up the search greatly. I will have to look to see what other gms might work.

This is a classic case of Murphy's law. You never need it until you've gotten rid of it.
I wish I'd never heard of a scrap yard now. How many useful parts and cars were scrapped because we no longer needed them.
When I think of all the cars and trucks I've hauled off, it makes me cringe.
How many of us have done it because we got tired of hearing about it from the wife.

Ugh!!!
