You might email some of these places over here that might be willing to ship you one.

I don't endorse.   I just found them of the first internet search, there are others.   I'll see if I have one, too.   Google or whatever you search with over there and see what comes up.

Jim,

You are a star, both sites have the fitting, I went for Summit racing as they had a better picture of the fitting that I could see the raised part inside the female end.
I have saved both of these site now for the future. Fitting should be here in a couple of weeks and cost is just under $30 including the shipping. Many thanks again for all your help Jim, I do appreciate it. I will then be able to start and take the car round the block. Have a good day today.

All the best Andy

To Rick, Bruce, Harveyb and Joe,

My thanks go to you all for your time to give me answers or ideas about the fitting for my 57 Fleetwood.
Jim has given me 2 links and Summit racing has the fitting so I have now ordered it from them.
I wish you all and Jim a great Christmas and be safe guys. Without people like you to help others it would be a very sad world.

Jim

Just an update to thank you again for your help. I have just received my brass fitting today and guess what, I had a pack of four so the $7.99 was good value, however the $21 shipping wasn't   :(
If anyone is short of one then let me know. I live in the UK so would have to ship over there.

It's not unusual that the shipping do cost more than the good...As I'm living in Switzerland and importing parts since 30 years or more, I unfortunately know that too well.

It's the price we have to pay living outside the US Roger which we have to accept. I feel it is well worth it though as it is an important small part.
Just posted a Christmas card to a friend in Switzerland last week, he is around 80 years old now. He used to live in the UK for years but moved back about 35 years ago.
Have a good Christmas

I too have been hit by the USPS / eBay  going to only Air Mail out of USA.

Surface post was really good for me, as I was always prepared to wait the 3 to 4 Months it took.   I have had some very heavy parts come Surface, but not now.   Costs too much.

Hi Bruce,

As foreign custodians we have to put up with the expense of shipping sadly. It annoys us all but after we have paid for it, it just blends into the background until we buy something else. How nice is it to drive a car for maybe an hour or so and not see another one the same. I have a T shirt with the 57 Fins on the front and it say "Classic not Plastic" and that is what it is all about not having to drive a plastic eurobox that everyone else has. Old American cars will never be forgotten but plastic german cars will when they get recycled into baby buggies a few years down the line. As for electric cars, well we don't want to go there.
Have a great christmas down under Bruce.

I am not a custodian of my cars, no matter what brand they are, I own each and every one of them, and do what I like with them.

PS.   May all the presents that you don't have to buy yourself, be expensive.   Have a great Christmas, and stay as safe as possible.

By custodians I mean to say that although we own our cars we do look after them well for our own pleasure but also when we are dead and gone someone else can see and appreciate them. Does that make sense? I am probably looking at life too deeply, my father died at 102 so I hope I have a few years to enjoy my  57 Fleetwood and 76 Mercury Marquis 2 door hard top. Both rather large for the country lanes local to me but other cars seem to give way and most gawk at what they see.
I really like your last sentence Bruce, nice one.

Andy :)

My mate has a '69 Mercury Cougar XR7 that was in the Bond film "On her majesties secret service" and it is in an auction today in London, looks stunning. He bought it in 1990 and finished it this year, have a look. https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26122/lot/104/

Fear not, Andy, shipping costs work both ways, it's just differential distance and local rules.
Thanks to companies like DHL, UPS, Fedex, etc. that broke the int'l shipping barriers at least we can get stuff.   You'd be waiting for the boat to leave port still...
We used to say in industry "a ten cent part will shutdown a unit as much as a million dollar one".   A lot of cars end up sitting for that reason, your's was on that brink.   Can't find what they need/won't pay the price.   Much easier with internet than old days => walking parts yards and swop meets.   But parts stores carried more inventory in those days as well.   It'll only get tougher moving forward, simple economics.   Enjoy.

Andy Green

Jim that must have been a nightmare without the internet, like your comments, very funny read. I have to say the majority of American car parts are quite accessible now either NOS if you are lucky or repro. I had a 55 English Ford Zodiac about 35 years ago and it was a nightmare trying to get parts for the guys who were repairing or restoring one of those. Fortunately mine was all good. I try to buy the best car I can for the budget I have and that seems to work mostly. Can't escape all the faulty things but most of them.
I have loved American cars all my life, bought my first one, 56 Packard Clipper about 22 years ago, sold it to start my biz 3 years later then bought a 55 Chevy 3100 5 years ago which I didn't really enjoy. Bought a 58 Caddy Coupe which I never had (Trace my 58 Coupe thread) which I am still aiming to get my $13,000 back. Now have a 57 Fleetwood and 76 Mercury. British classics didn't really have the style for me. Good to hear from you Jim, be safe and have a great Christmas.

Andy, I might have one, I'll have a look at the weekend. Phil

Thanks Phil, I have now purchased from Summit so I am ok but thanks for the offer. Have a great Christmas my friend, a bit smaller one but a safe one.
